ATA Carnet

The ATA carnet is a passport for any goods you want to export temporarily for fairs, exhibitions, presenting a collection, demonstrating professional equipment to a client, reporting, shooting and so on.

It offers dispensation from the payment of duties and taxes, and replaces the declarations that need to be completed when crossing each border, provided that the goods will be returned to European territory* and will not be exported permanently.

The cost of the carnet varies and depends on the declared value and the number of destinations.

It is valid for 12 months.

Please note: since 1 June 2026, the ATA Carnet has transitioned to a digital format with the official launch of the e-ATA Carnet.

This major modernisation, fully integrated into the GEFI platform, aims to simplify your temporary operations whilst maintaining the same legal framework and customs guarantees.

📅 A phased roll-out:

The transition to a fully digital system will take place in stages, depending on the destination of your goods:

From 1 June 2026: the 27 countries of the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway and the overseas territories.

By early 2028: gradual integration, in half-yearly waves, of the other member countries of the network to cover all 81 countries in the ATA system.

> To obtain the document and details of the fees, please make an appointment to set up an initial connection directly with our International Formalities service, which will offer personalised support with using the dedicated GEFI portal: www.formalites-export.com

* Although the Principality is not a member of the European Union, Monaco is part of the EU customs territory due to its customs union with France.
