When H.E. Mr Nerijus Aleksiejūnas, Republic of Lithuania Ambassador for France and Monaco visited the Principality, MEB organised a Destination Business conference on 18 June dedicated to this the most populous Baltic country. It proved informative and promising.

Dynamic, innovative and welcoming was the overall impression gained of Lithuania at the end of H.E. Mr Nerijus Aleksiejūnas’s presentation, confirmed by the three speakers who followed via videoconference from Vilnius.

Organised as a breakfast meeting in the Salon Jardin d’Hiver at the Hôtel Hermitage, the conference focused on innovation and two sectors that are particularly well established: biotech and fintech. In the latter, the country has become a leader in Europe, notably with regards to payments, with regulations and a particularly high-performance ecosystem of more than 230 startups specialising in developing solutions.

Not to be left out, the biotech sector also benefits from a robust approach supported by proactive policies and tax incentives to encourage investors. At the end of the conference, participants on both sides had a chance to engage in informal discussions during the Q&A session.

The Lithuanian delegation also visited several sites including car manufacturer Venturi, the incubator/accelerator Monacotech, and the Monaco Scientific Centre (CSM), famous for its research into corals.

As a result of hosting this delegation, potential business synergies between the two countries were identified, and talks of trips by entrepreneurs between the two countries discussed to consolidate the relationship.
