Business meetings in Cyprus
Seizing the opportunity of the 13th Presidents of Small European States’ Parliaments Conference, the Monaco Economic Board (MEB) met business organisations from the island and other countries. It was a new initiative for Monaco that is set to be repeated.
For the first time, this parliamentary meeting, which was attended by Stéphane Valeri and other members of Monaco’s National Council, focused on business cooperation. Monaco Economic Board was represented by its Executive Director General Guillaume Rose and Justin Highman, Monaco Invest Director. Monaco Telecom’s CEO and MEB Steering Committee member Martin Péronnet also took part in the discussions. The operator bought the Cypriot telecoms company Epic in 2018 which has enjoyed good growth since then, and this trip was a good opportunity to reinforce relations with decision-makers in the country.
The MEB delegation had an opportunity to meet business leaders from Invest Cyprus and the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) with whom a Memorandum of Understanding was signed. Synergies have emerged in the finance, shipping and yachting sectors, and the possibility of hosting a Cyprian delegation in Monaco in 2020 and a Trade Mission to Cyprus in 2021 were discussed.
MEB also met representatives of the countries present and the CCI of Montenegro, the country which will host the 2020 Presidents of Small European States’ Parliaments Conference. As it will include a Business Forum, MEB is planning a Trade Mission to coincide with the event for entrepreneurs in Monaco. Finally, Monaco was selected to host it in 2021 which will be another chance for MEB to arrange meetings with speakers in the business and institutional communities of the nine small states of Europe, and organise events to benefit its members.
