Monaco businesses recognised at 6th Eco Club Awards
Monaco Economic Board (MEB) and the Nice-Matin Group held the 6th Monaco Eco Club Awards last year on 28 November.
Among key figures attending the ceremony were Jacques Boisson, Secretary of State representing HSH Prince Albert II, Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, Environment and Urban Development, alongside 300 people from the Principality’s business community.
Six trophies were presented to companies of various sizes and maturity, highlighting again the diversity and dynamism driving the Monegasque economy: easyOne (Innovation), V.Ships (International), Semco (Sustainable Development), Coty Lancaster (Made in Monaco), Espen Øino International (Special Jury Prize) and CMB/CMG’s Etienne Franzi and Robert Laure (Managers of the Year).
Since its launch, the Eco Club Awards have recognised companies that employ 6,000 people in Monaco, 40,000 worldwide, not counting the 2015 Manager of the Year, Ornella Barra, at the head of 400,000 employees!
In his speech, MEB Chairman Michel Dotta highlighted the success of the winners, “Inventive players who constantly question what they are doing to stand out more, and don’t hesitate to take on foreign competition wherever it may be”.

INNOVATION
easyOne
Award presented by Martin PERONNET (Monaco Telecom), Sylvie BIANCHERI (Grimaldi Forum) and Michel PROST-DUMONT (Banque Populaire Méditerranée).
Founded in 2005 by Thierry LERAY, easyOne is a subsidiary of the Telis Group, and is run by a team passionate about innovation and determined to simplify life with multi-media IT applications. A B2B company, easyOne, relies on a network of partners and IP solution integrators to install their bespoke customizable solutions adapted to each sector: health, luxury hotels, finance, public sector, private companies, and also the general public. More than 2,500 systems have already been set up in the Principality at the CHPG, CFM Indosuez, Banque Edmond de Rothschild and the Hôtel de Paris. The company has big ambitions to go international and relies on the MEB’s Trade Missions abroad.
INTERNATIONAL
V.SHIPS
Award presented by Pierfranck PELACCHI (SMEG), Axel HOPPENOT (Monte-Carlo SBM) and Olivier MAILLIARD (Caisse d’Epargne Côte d’Azur).
Founded in 1984, V.Ships is a subsidiary of the V.Group and a leader in ship management for independent vessels. Services provided include crew recruitment and training, purchasing, technical aspects and repairs, etc. Present in 31 countries with 67 offices around the world, V.Ships looks after a fleet of around 1,000 vessels and manages 44,000 crew members. With 160 people based in Monaco, V.Ships’ turnover in 2016 was €39 million.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
SEMCO
Award presented by Marie-Pierre GRAMAGLIA, Minister of Public Works, Environment and Urban Development.
Founded in 1971, SEMCO is a Monegasque company that specialises in plastic packaging. Over 10 million packaging items sold in 2016. The company was taken over by Wenaël Regnier in 2011 and has been focusing on sustainable development, with green polyethylene, a 100% recyclable plastic based on sugar cane. SEMCO has taken its eco-responsible approach another step further with SEMPACK, a patented flexible conical pouch that uses three times less material than standard bottles or containers, and is totally compactable.
MADE IN MONACO
COTY LANCASTER
Award presented by Jean CASTELLINI, Minister of Finance and the Economy.
Lancaster’s R&D and production site, based in Monaco since 1946, are now part of the COTY Group’s Luxury division.
The Monaco site is one of Coty Luxury’s centres of excellence, specialising in R&D for skin and sun care products, and production for Lancaster and other Coty Group brands. Lancaster is one of the big employers in the Principality with around 300 employees. It is the brand leader in Europe for selective sun care products and has a strong position in China.
The Coty Group, no 3 in the world for beauty products, has a workforce of around 20,000, with a turnover of US$9 billion, and 80 brands in more than 150 countries. Coty Luxury’s head office is in Paris.

Espen Øino International
Award presented by Jean CASTELLINI, Minister of Finance and the Economy.
A resident of Monaco since 2006, Espen Øino is a Norwegian yacht designer. His firm Espen Øino International is one of the leading design studios for large customized motor yachts. The company has an international profile with a multi-cultural team and a client base that extends from Asia to the Far East, USA and Central America. His team is currently working on a dozen projects, including the REV (Research Expedition Vessel), an exceptional 182m yacht dedicated to expeditions and research. It has been commissioned by a Norwegian industrialist who has decided to invest in ocean preservation initiatives. Since start-up, Espen Øino International has delivered 47 outstanding yachts.

CMB – CMG
Award presented by HE Mr Jacques BOISSON, Secretary of State, representing HSH Prince Albert II.
Since it opened in 1976, CMB (Compagnie Monégasque de Banque) has focused on providing a high-end quality Private Banking service, distinguished by the unrivalled proximity it has to customers, thanks to its location in the Principality. Its capital is 100% owned by Mediobanca SpA which is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.
CMG (Compagnie Monégasque de Gestion) is a subsidiary of CMB and specialises in financial management, including mutual funds. It has carved out a reputation for developing specific products, such as the first alternative managed fund in the Principality and Monaco Eco +, a fund based on the dynamic environment sector.
The CMB holds equity of more than €700 million.
