The Club de l'Eco presents the strengths of the Monegasque labor market
Organized jointly by the Monaco Economic Board (MEB) and the Nice-Matin Group, the Rendez-vous du Club de l'Eco* offered a new format on November 3rd. During this conference, which was open to the public, Club members and invited experts were able to discuss the following topic: "The dynamism of employment in Monaco: career opportunities in an international marketplace".
A new format for the Club de l'Eco's meetings! On November 3rd, the Monaco Economic Board (MEB) and the Nice-Matin Group offered their members a new format, in public and punctuated by numerous video testimonials produced by the Monaco Info technical teams. The theme: "The dynamism of employment in Monaco: career opportunities in an international marketplace". "Monaco is a real magnet for over 55,000 employees working in various sectors. It is an economic hub open to the world offering numerous career opportunities", presented Guillaume Rose, Executive Director of MEB.
Career development, density of the ecosystem, teleworking, interconnection between local and international decision-makers, variety of business sectors... Interviewed in turn by Christian Huault, Editor-in-Chief of Nice-Matin, Corinne Pirinoli (Monaco Telecom), Emmanuelle Cellario-Florio (Employment Service), Emmanuel Van Peteghem (SBM Monte-Carlo) and Ariel Barugel (CFM Indosuez) set out the strong points of the Monegasque job market.
From start-ups to large groups
Currently, the Principality has more than 56,000 employees (including 51,008 in the private sector) of 140 nationalities (63% French and 15.5% Italian) and 6126 companies (figures as of December 31, 2020). Although eight sectors are the main ones to recruit (medical, legal, hotel and restaurant, banking, construction, digital, personal assistance, accounting and auditing), "the scientific and technical activities and administrative services sector is the leading employer in the Principality," said Emmanuelle Cellario, head of the employment service. She also mentioned the advantages of a local administration ("Each employer is followed up individually"), the law on teleworking ("companies can offer up to 3 days a week of teleworking") and work-study programs ("This is now a flagship measure with a dedicated platform launched last year. We have signed 160 contracts in one year").
For Corinne Pirinoli, HR Director at Monaco Telecom, one of the strengths of the Monegasque job market is that "there is also a wide diversity of companies: from start-ups to large groups. And Monaco is able to bring these companies together. This creates an ecosystem that is full of opportunities for career development. For example, 70% of employees who leave Monaco Telecom find a job in Monaco afterwards."
Certain fields are part of Monaco's DNA. "In the tourism sector, we attract quite a bit of talent. Monaco is an international place for luxury hotels and restaurants," said Emmanuel Van Peteghem. The General Secretary of the Société des Bains de Mer, which has 130 different professions, stressed the importance of "encouraging internal mobility. We have a real training policy to enable our talent to stay and develop."
Another advantage of Monaco, particularly in the financial sector, is that "there are many subsidiaries in Monaco with headquarters abroad," said Ariel Barugel, HR Director at CFM Indosuez. In ten years, there has been a 30% increase in the number of professionals in the finance sector, which now totals 4,000 employees.
During this Eco Club meeting, the speakers also noted that the tech sector is making a major push in Monaco. In ten years, it has grown by more than 60% and now has 861 companies and 1,727 employees.
This new format of the Club de l'Eco has won over the audience. It is intended to become a permanent feature to promote Monaco's economic fabric beyond the Principality's borders.
The next meeting of the Eco Club will take place on November 30th at the Grimaldi Forum for the 10th edition of the Eco Trophies.
